WCMF LOVERS ADVISED TO PREPARE FOR ITS RETURN

Chief Executive Officer of Discover Dominica Authority, Mr. Colin Piper calls on people abroad to begin preparations for the return of World Creole Music Festival.

Moments after the conclusion of Jazz and Creole earlier this month, an announcement was made for the return of one of Dominica’s most anticipated events, World Creole Music Festival, the biggest festival to have been hosted in Dominica from its inception in 1997. The festival was halted due to effects of the global covid 19 pandemic for the last two years.

The dates have already been finalized for Friday October 28 to Sunday October 30, 2022. This signals one step closer to making the return of the festival a reality.

“We are in the planning process. We are about a week away from presenting all of the information to Government, that will be the budget, the proposed line-up and we hope that we get approval soon thereafter so that we can begin the negotiations with the artists with a view to having a launch towards the end of June. Of course we won’t launch until we have signed all the artists and sometimes it goes down to the wire not because of things that we do but because they are playing one festival against the other,” Mr. Piper stated.

Mr. Piper says patrons should commence preparations to welcome the event back to Dominica.

“What we can tell people abroad is to begin to plan on how they will come to Dominica, where they will stay, speak to their friends and family about coming down. So we anticipate a big event not only of Dominicans but of all creole music lovers. We look forward to welcoming our brethren from Guadeloupe and Martinique and St. Lucia who have been big proponents of the festival. But we just look forward to getting back and showcasing a little bit about Dominica’s culture and heirtage and of course that will be apart our Independence celebrations,” Piper added.

The three nights of pulsating rhythms is part of the Ministry of Tourism’s effort to market Dominica as a destination of choice and to promote Dominica’s tourism.
