Residents of the villages of Paix Bouche and Thibaud are set to benefit from infrastructural works in 2022 as the Government of Dominica continues to build a resilient nation.

The implementation of plans to realign a section of road in Thibaud has commenced. This road will allow for the safe passage of heavy vehicles and equipment to other communities

Prime Minister Skerrit explained that work in ongoing on the designs for the proposed road alignment.

“The first instance is to look at the realignment of a section of the road in a place called Morne Savon. The whole intention is to see how we can realign the road to allow for a container truck to get through and beyond Thibaud and to Vielle Case. And so the Ministry had done a design based on surveys and I thought that it would not have satisfied the objective. They agreed eventually and they decided to go back to the field and do a review and get to a realignment. And we visited the proposed site and walked the track, myself along with the Public Works Minister and we realized that the alignment could be eve shorter than what was initially proposed, so they are going back to the drawing board to see whether that which has been suggested is plausible,” PM Skerrit explained.

Minister for Public Works and the Digital Economy, Hon. Cassanni Laville stated that the new preliminary designs will allow for larger rucks to access the community.

“We had to go back to the drawing board and we used some of our surveys and we were able to do preliminary designs for an area sections that we felt will create a much better alignment and slope, that is both horizontal and vertical alignment, which will allow for the larger trucks to access the community,”  Hon. Laville noted.

The village of Paix Bouche will also see some infrastructural development in 2022, with rehabilitation work being done on a farm access road set to assist approximately twenty six farmers using in the area.

PM Skerrit stated that the first phase will start near the end of the December with the clearing of lands.

“We have identified the issues confronting the farmers there based on their advice. So we will move as early as next week to engage in the first phase which is the clearing of the road, the reinstatement of the earth drains, the unblocking of the culverts, and then a second assessment will be done in regards to the surface where we will be doing some new road surfacing. So the farmers are pretty happy about this intervention as it will no doubt enhance the access to their farms,” PM Skerrit explained.
