Parliamentary Representative for the Soufriere constituency, Honourable Denise Charles has great ideas for development in her constituency.
One of the key areas Honourable Charles mentions is the improvement of sports in the community.
“One of the major concerns has been sporting activities that is why we are focused on the expansion of the playing field to create a world class field where we can play football and cricket and would not affect the cricket pitch during football season. I know one of the concerns for the youth there is the multipurpose basketball court which we started before the hurricane, and we are hoping that in this fiscal year we will be able to complete that project,” the MP stated.
Housing has always been a concern for the community of Pointe Michel. Honourable Charles focused on the housing revolution in her constituency as she mentions an apartment complex to house forty eight families in the first phase.
“After the hurricane, over fifty families lost their homes. I am happy that I can say to the people that we have identified land for the construction of forty eight units in the first phase. We have also identified the area to build some stand-alone homes for some families we have to relocate who live near the ravines,” Minister Charles explained.
The community of Soufriere will be one to benefit from the newly developed polyclinics which are funded through the citizenship by investment programme.
Honourable Charles says that the road network in her constituency will be addressed.
“We have some issues with some roads, one being Rose Hill and the road leading to the Sulphur Springs and we hope to address that issue in the upcoming fiscal year. The Rose Hill Road is under Community Road Projects and so we hope to start soon. We have already started work on the Bois Cutlet road leading into Coulibri Ridge Resort, which we hope will open in the first quarter of 2021 providing over fifty jobs for our people,” Minister Charles added.
Meantime, the MP described her vision to transform Gallion into an agro-tourism community.
“We have four leaders in the village who have stood up to assist in organizing the farmers, seeing how much funds we need to start and the tools required; what we going to plant up there so we can transform Gallion into an agro-tourism destination as part of the way people can earn a living in Gallion,” the minister further added.
Honourable Charles says that as the Parliamentary Representative for the Soufriere constituency, she will continues to stand in solidarity with the constituents and work towards vast development in each community undertaking many projects to include major road projects and housing.
