GOVERNMENT TO TAKE SERIOUS MEASURES FOR ILLEGAL ENTRY INTO DOMINICA

Prime Minister Skerrit says the travel advisory which the United States of America has on Dominica should be removed. Honourable Skerrit says Dominica is one of the countries which dealt with the pandemic the best.

“Let me say to the United States this travel advisory that they issuing; stop your ignorance. If you don’t know call me, call someone to give you information. But this is an unnecessary travel advisory based on nothing really. Dominica is one of the top countries in the management of covid-19, and we are prepared to share our practices with countries like the United States. But this is not necessary. If you are saying don’t come to Dominica, then what about your country? Why you want to create this problem between you and the citizens of the Caribbean? Why would you tell people don’t come to our country because of covid-19? We haven’t had a case in how many months and everybody who has tested positive in Dominica has survived, including an eighty five year old man, with all sort of underlying conditions.  So let us not be so indifferent to the plight of the developing world,” Prime Minister Skerrit stated.

Meantime, Prime Minster, Honourable Roosevelt Skerrit says Government is concerned over the illegal entry into Dominica especially during this time where the world is being faced with the covid-19 pandemic.

“Our position is of a humanitarian standpoint, if you are distressed and you need us to facilitate you we are prepared to facilitate any citizen of any country. But we do not appreciate the idea of people coming into this country illegally and slipping into this country and into people’s home, into communities and so forth. We are seeing a resurgence of covid-19 in the Caribbean and we are very, very careful. We have opened up to visitors, but we are seeking to maintain some very strong protocols and guidelines. I do not want us to be too complacent in this country because the last thing we want to see in this country is to see a resurgence of covid-19,” The PM explained.

The Nation’s Leader says Government through the Ministry of National Security will not take illegal entry into this country lightly.

“I am saying to people that we will not take lightly anybody who is coming into the country, whether you are a citizen of Dominica coming into Dominica illegally or a non-citizen. If you are a citizen and you are stranded in Guadeloupe or Martinique, go to the consulate that we have in these countries, or send a message to a family or friend who can go to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the Ministry of National Security and we will facilitate you coming to Dominica through the legal channels. But we are very, very concerned about the illegal entry into Dominica. You come into the country, we will test you to ensure that you do not have covid-19 for your own good, for the good of your family, and for the good of the country. If you test and you test negative we send you home. If you come in and you test positive, we will provide you with care and ensure that we can protect the rest of the community form the spread of covid-19,” Prime Minister Skerrit added.
