NOTICE OF VACANCY IN THE JUDICIAL AND LEGAL SERVICE OF THE COMMONWEALTH OF DOMINICA

OFFICE OF THE SOLICITOR GENERAL

Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for a contractual appointment in the post of Solicitor General, in the Ministry of Tourism and Legal Affairs.

DUTIES:

Under the supervision of the Attorney General, Ministry of Tourism and Legal Affairs, the Solicitor General shall be responsible for:

• Giving legal advice and prepares legal documents;
• Advising on Law Reform and Law Revision matters;
• Representing Government in civil proceedings;
• Training junior lawyers;
• Attempting harmonization of legislation in the OECS/CARICOM region by carrying out comparative studies.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

• A Masters Degree in Law or Legal Education from a recognized university and Certificate in Legal Education
• Two (2) years or more experience in the legal field
• Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
• Ability to Interpret and apply laws
• Computer literacy

TERMS

Successful candidate will be contracted for a period of two (2) years in the first instance.

Salary Composition

Salary                                                             = $ 77,571.48 per annum

Allowance in

Lieu of private practice                               = $ 24,000.00 per annum

Combine travel and                                     = $ 22,770.0 per annum

Entertainment

Total                                                               = $124,341.48 per annum

Telephone allowance                                  =$       540.00 per annum

Gratuity                                                         twenty percent (20%) of basic salary drawn upon satisfactory completion of contract
