The Dominica State College (DSC) Faculty of Applied Arts and Technology (FAAT) are reporting outstanding performance of Dominican students at the 2013 City and Guilds International Examinations.
Forty students wrote the June 2013 examinations for the International Vocational Qualification (IVQ) Diploma in Electrical Installation and Motor Vehicle Systems.
Dean of the Faculty of Education at the DSC Merril Matthew said on Tuesday that all forty students were successful.
“Of the forty, 32 wrote the International Vocational Qualification (IVQ) Level two in Electrical installation and 8 wrote the IVQ Level 2 Technicians Certificate in Motor Vehicle Systems. This is the first time that everybody who registered for this examination by the Dominica State College was successful. So we are very proud of that as an institution” Matthew said.
The top perfomers for the Diploma in Electrical Installation were Deylon Valerie, Darnel Alexis, Joseph Francis, Ethan Larocque, Dave Laurent,Eustace St,.Rose and Joel Bedminister while the top performers for the technician certificate in Motor Vehicle Systems were Henderson Bruney, Conrad Marvin Phillip, and Louis Johnson.
Matthew reported that of the twenty-one (21) who wrote the examinations in Electrical Installation, a number of them are practicing electricians.
“This year, 21 of the students who wrote the Electrical Installation programme were mature students, working adults in electrical installation but they were never certified”.
Matthew said these results endorse the quality of education and training that students receive at the DSC. The courses were taught by lecturers Joseph Matthew and Reynold Bunch.
The Dean of the Faculty of Education expressed delight that the school was able to assist these individuals in becoming certified electricians.
“The Dominica State College gave them a very special accelerated programme and we are pleased to report that all of 21 students who took the exam were successful” he said.
The City and Guilds examinations are administered by the Department of continuing Education of the DSC. The College official says this achievement by the students is testimony that the school is delivering quality education.
“We have always prided ourselves in our ability to deliver a very high quality of instruction. So when we get results like this, it confirms what we have been saying, because here it is, at an international level of examination we are performing so creditably “noted Matthew.
“What it also means for the mature learners is that people who are out there in the trades particularly who just started working, they now can see the opportunity for them to come to the Dominica State College, do a City and Guilds Programme and get certification, which can make them accessible to other programs anywhere else in the world” he added.
City and Guilds International is one of the leading vocational education providers globally.
Every year two million learners across 81 countries work towards 500 qualifications in every major industrial sector.
