Dominica’s Jazz ‘n Creole this year will feature Master Pianist, Monty Alexander as the headline act.
The Jamaican-born artist recently celebrated his 50th year in music having recorded over seventy albums.
According to a release from the DDA, Alexander intends to captivate fans with a collection of standard and original songs as well as exciting Jamaican rhythms. Alexander has set the groundwork for jazz music in the Caribbean by artistically fusing jazz with reggae, calypso and other tropical genres.
Alexander, who migrated to the USA in the 1960s, has performed with Frank Sinatra, Ray Brown, Quincy Jones, Tony Bennett, Sly Dunbar and Barbara Hendricks among others.
The Discover Dominica Authority has planned an expanded jazz experience beginning on May 15th with a pan ‘n jazz soiree at the evergreen hotel, and ending with riverside Jazz and Creole on Saturday May 18.
Tickets for the main event on May 19 are currently available from the Dominica Festivals Commissions (DFC) office as well as other ticket outlets in Roseau and Portsmouth.
