OFFICIAL FUNERAL FOR THE LATE FREDERICK OSBOURNE GEORGE SYMES, FORMER SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY

 

 

FLAGS TO BE FLOWN AT HALF STAFF ON PUBLIC BUILDINGS

 

The Government of Dominica has decided that Mr. Frederick Osbourne (Ossie) George Symes will be afforded an official funeral on Monday, March 25, 2013 at the St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church at 3:30 pm.

The Dominican Flag shall be flown at half staff on all public buildings in the State on that day.

Frederick O. Symes, a retired Public Officer and former Speaker of the House of Assembly, held several positions in the Public Service including, Director of Audit, Permanent Secretary in various Ministries and Chief Establishment Officer. He also served as Secretary to the Public Service Commission and was Chairperson of the Job Classification Appeals Committee. He was a very active member of the Civil Service Association (CSA) as it was then called. He was an avid sportsman and remained a sports fan all his life.

In his long and distinguished career, he served under the leadership of several eminent Dominicans including E.O. LeBlanc, Frank Baron, Patrick John, O.J. Seraphin, Dame Eugenia Charles, and Edison James.  During the reign of the U.W.P Administration, Mr. Symes relinquished his retirement to serve his country as the Speaker of the House of Assembly.

Mr. Symes passed away on Tuesday, March 12th at the age of 75.

He is survived by his wife Stella, 4 children and a step son, 5 brothers, 3 sisters, 3 grand children, 1 brother in law, 3 sisters in law, nieces, nephews and many close relatives and friends.
