The Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Dominica His Excellency XianJiang Lin says the final phase of the Dominica China Friendship Hospital comes to an end for a handing over during the first half of this year.
His Excellency made the announcement in his address during the commissioning of HIFU services at the Dominica-China friendship hospital on Wednesday March sixteen 2022.
The 2.5 Million US dollar HIFU machine was donated to Dominica by the Government of the People’s Republic of China.
“I have good news for you all. The reconstruction and expansion project of the Dominica China Friendship Hospital has entered the final stage. And will be handed over to the Dominican Government in the first half of the year. It will greatly enhance Dominica’s dominant position in the Caribbean health care sector. I was told that Director of PAHO, Dr. Carissa Etienne spoke highly of the project. She said these are world class services, some of which are not available in the OECS and even the wider Caribbean in terms of the public health sector,” HE XianJiang Lin stated.
Ambassador Lin says Dominica is capable of becoming a centre of excellence not just for the OECS but for the wider Caribbean.
The HIFU machine at Dominica China friendship hospital has already been used in six surgeries.
Ambassador Lin says HIFU and MRI are the two most important pieces of equipment in the reconstruction and expansion project of the Dominica-China friendship hospital.
The MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) was put into use in October last year.
Dominica is the only country in the OECS to have MRI scan service at a public hospital. It’s also the only country in the OECS with HIFU services. HIFU is widely used in the treatment of benign and malignant tumors.
HIFU is a non-invasive treatment approach that uses precisely delivered ultrasound energy to a tumor cell without radiation.
