The Dominica High Court and the Registry are expected to be relocated to a new and modernized setting in the first quarter of 2021.
During the passage of Hurricane Maria in 2017, the building which housed the Registry and the country’s High Court was severely damaged.
Minister for National Security and Home Affairs, Honourable Rayburn Blackmoore informed the public that the move will be happening soon.
“In the first quarter of 2021, the Registry inclusive of the Criminal and High Court will be relocated in a modernized setting,” the Security Minister stated.
Meanwhile, Acting Registrar General Marie Therese Etienne stated that she is excited about the relocation of the Registry Division and the High Court of Justice, as works continue on the post office building which will house the building.
“For the past several months extensive works have been ongoing on what is now the two uppermost floors of the Post Office building. We are pleased to announce that this will very soon be the new location of the Registry Division and the High Court of Justice,” Etienne stated.
Ms. Etienne added that the retrofitting of this new buildings will enhance the working environment for those employed at the department.
A third courtroom will be added to ensure that matters will be heard in a timely manner.
