As the Government of Dominica continues its mandate to prioritize health care, the construction of the Marigot Hospital is well underway.
The construction, funded by the Citizen by Investment Programme commenced in early 2020 and is projected to last one year.
The new two floor hospital will be a total of 40,000 square feet, and will host seventy-five beds as well as a wide range of essential services and modern state-of-the-art facilities.
The second phase which started late last year is moving at a steady pace, and the hospital is expected to be fully completed by April 2021.
The new Marigot Hospital will provide various services upon its completion, including Ambulatory Services, Emergency Care, Intensive Care (ICU), Maternity and Pediatric Care, Laboratory and Radiology Services and Trauma Centre.
A grant of five million U.S dollars from the Mexican Government will be used to purchase state of the art equipment for the hospital.
Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance, Economic Affairs, and Planning, Senator Gregory Riviere stated that the hospital is a promise kept by the Labour Party Administration.
Minister Riviere impressed upon the need for people to become trained in various fields as the hospital will bring significant employment to the north east in all fields.
“I am looking forward to the operationalization of this hospital where we can see massive employment. So we need people to get trained, we need nurses, we need doctors, we need lab technicians, we need security, we need people in the fire service so there’s going to be massive employment,” Minister Riviere added.
