The Dominica water and sewerage company limited (DOWASCO) has launched a week of activities to observe World Water Day.
World Water Day is recognized on the 22nd of March every year. It is a United Nations initiative to raise awareness of water systems, focus attention on the importance of freshwater and advocate for the sustainable management of freshwater resources.
Edward Registe, Public Relations Officer of DOWASCO explained that for the week, there will be radio addresses by the Hon Minister for Water Resource Management, Reginald Austrie, as well as the General Manager of DOWASCO, Bernard Etinoffe. He also informed that the company will host customer appreciation and conduct initiatives to educate students about the importance of water.
Registe also said the company will launch a documentary “From Catchment to Consumption.” The documentary aims to sensitize the general public on the processes necessary for providing pipe borne water to consumers.
He says it is expected that the documentary will be aired in schools and on national television to reach as many persons as possible. The company hopes this will evoke appreciation for pipe borne water.
