Prime Minister Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit believes the principles of unity of purpose and strength exhibited by the People’s Republic of China (PRC) should be emulated by countries such as Dominica.
The Prime Minister made the observation during a reception to celebrate the 63rd anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China at the Chinese Embassy in Morne Daniel on Friday September 28th 2012.
Hon. Skerrit referred to the adversity of China saying that it has resulted in the country becoming stronger and more united.
“We recognize that this is a major achievement for the people of China having gone through a very turbulent history of invasion. China has shown that in adversity it became a stronger and more united people. We believe that China is a country that we should emulate in respect to unity of purpose and unity of strength, PM Skerrit noted.
He said further that “China has brought itself today to be a member of the UN Security council with a veto vote and this a major influence which China has brought on the world stage”
The Dominica leader used the occasion to reaffirm Dominica’s commitment to the One China Policy.
“We know how difficult it is to build a nation and we are very grateful to the Chinese Government for its continued assistance. Let me say that we have never regretted our decision to recognize the one china policy and rest assured of our continued support and recognition of the one china policy,” PM Skerrit said.
The Prime Minister commended the Chinese Government’s efforts towards improving the China/Taiwan relations and looks forward to their peaceful reunification. He said Dominica stands ready to do whatever it can towards that very important goal.
