Chinese Charge d' Affaires, Qiu Wei Wei hosted a reception in celebration of the 63rd anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China at the Morne Daniel Embassy on Friday September 28, 2012.

Close to 100 including President of Dominica, H.E Eliud Williams, Prime Minister Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit, members of Cabinet, members of the diplomatic corps, Government officials, Chinese business representatives as well as members of the local Chinese community attended the reception.

In her remarks, the Charge d’ Affaires pointed out that the year 2012 has been extraordinary in terms of China's development process.

“China has the confidence and ability to persevere through all the difficulties, keep the economy on the track of stable and relatively fast growth, and continue to contribute to the recovery and growth of the global economy,”.

The Chinese Charge d’ Affaires said China has had to introduce a host of policies and measures to stabilize growth and balance the economy to meet the enormous domestic and external challenges.

“China is facing tremendous challenges in its economic and social development but we are confident we have conditions and abilities to overcome our difficulties on our way ahead,” she noted.

Notwithstanding those difficulties however the Chinese representative said new accomplishments have been achieved in China's economic and social developments.

The Chinese Charge d' Affaires, Qiu Wei Wei spoke highly of the existing mutual cooperation between both countries.

“Although China and Dominica are far from each other in distance we are glad to see that since the establishment of diplomatic relations of our two countries eight years ago there has been sound and constant development in our relations.  China and Dominica are both developing countries. We have common views and interest on many international issues. We appreciate the commitment of the Government of Dominica to the one china policy.”

The Chinese Charge d’ Affaires used the occasion to speak to some of the recent projects undertaken in Dominica by the Chinese Government.

“In April 2012 the rehabilitation project of the West Coast Road was completed. The China/Dominica Agricultural Centre has been rebuilt and so far more than one hundred Dominican students have been to China for further studies,” the Charge d’ Affaires said.

The top Chinese official gave the assurance that China will continue to strengthen its friendship with Dominica.
