The Honourable Minister for Planning, Economic Development and Investment, Dr. John Colin Mcintyre, calls the Citizenship by Investment programme a vehicle to a better livelihood for Dominicans.
The Honourable Dr. Mcintyre speaking at the signing ceremony for the new Petite Savanne Community at Bellevue Chopin reiterated the vision of the Honourable Prime Minister, Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit, to use the CBI programme and its benefits to develop Dominica.
The Honourable Minister for investment wants the new community to be used as a model for housing development in Dominica.
“This project in terms of the resettlement of the people of Petite Savanne is an ideal opportunity under the CBI where we can use it for social housing programmes to help our people.”
The Honourable Minister for Housing, Reginald Austrie, restated that nine communities were declared disaster areas after the August 27th tropical storm.
“Residents were forced wholly or in part to relocate to safer communities and these areas would be: Bath Estate, Dubique, Petite Savanne, Campbell, Coulibistrie, Pichelin, Petite Soufriere, Good Hope and San Sauveur. Government had to ensure that the persons were put in community centres, health centres, schools and other public buildings as guest houses and residential accommodations at the expense of the state.”
Honourable Dr. Mcintyre indicated that government is working to prevent these areas from suffering the same fate as Petite Savanne.
