Dominica’s Meteorological Office has revealed expectations for the upcoming hurricane season.
Senior Meteorological Officer, Fitzroy Pascal presented information at a recent National Emergency Planning Organization (NEPO) meeting on active weather systems relevant to Dominica.
Pascal stated that the El Nino factor which is expected to lessen storm activity has not emerged therefore the season could be an active one.
“The El Nino event inhibits Atlantic tropical cyclone activity by producing high wind shear, however we have not seen the onset of the El Nino event, so as we are approaching the peak of the season, we’re looking at a near normal to active hurricane season.”
The MET Officer reminded the public to pay close attention to official bulletins and to make necessary preparations.
