Hon. Charles Savarin, Minister for National Security reaffirmed government’s commitment to reducing the incidents of crime on the island.
Hon. Savarin made that remark as he addressed parliament last week. He said several actions have been taken toward that thrust.
“The Police in particular have stepped up their action in an effort to increase and improve the security of the state and the safety of the people. The Government expanded the Police Force from 450 to 500 and we continue to train our policemen at home and abroad in an effort to stem violent crime and anti-social behavior in the community.”
The Government has recently held discussions with churches and established their commission on crime. A Cabinet sub-committee on crime was also formed. As a result, that sub-committee embarked on a sensitization programme where a series of community meetings were held around the country.
