Very soon four water tanks in the Soufriere Constituency will be commissioned.
Village expansion in Pointe Mitchel has given rise to the need to improve the existing water supply.
Therefore, Government is spending $748,000 to have an additional 30,000 gallon tank set up in the heights of Union Estate.
Parliamentary Representative for the Soufriere Constituency, Ian Pinard says this will be enough to sustain the growing community.
“This tank will… be used for the Union Estate area which is a really big development; we have close to 300 lots now being sold and another 28 will be sold in the next few weeks to residents of Pointe Mitchel.
“So the community is expanding rapidly and with that rapid development, you need a larger supply of water. This is why today, you can see the project is now complete.”
The water intake for this tank is located in Loubiere. Hon. Pinard explained that water will flow from here into the community.
Government is also meeting the needs of the people in the community of Scott’s Head as it relates to water.
Two tanks have just been completed for that community as part of Phase Two of the Savanne Water Project.
One tank is located in the heights of Scott’s Head near Segment One of the Waitukubuli National Trail and the other near the Scott’s Head Primary School.
“We recognized that we had a serious problem and the Government addressed the situation with a second phase. This project is costing over $1m.”
That phase involved a new pump which will propel water to the bigger tank near the National Trail from the small tank near the primary school.
Hon. Pinard can safely say that after these tanks are commissioned there will no longer be a water problem in his part of the island.
