Dominica’s education minister Hon. Petter Saint Jean revealed a few of his ministry’s plans for the coming school year at the graduation ceremony for the St. Mary’s Academy last Friday.
Plans include tackling the drop-out rate at secondary schools and the Dominica State College.
“In the new school year we will address the drop-out rate among our high school and college students. We will seek to examine the reasons why some children fail to graduate from high school after five years of education and implement alternative programmes that will ensure their success.“
The minister also listed some of the priorities on his ministry’s agenda to ensure that children are fully equipped to succeed.
“Quality early childhood education, new and improved schools, classroom redesign, the strengthening of technical, vocational subjects at our schools and higher qualifying standards for teachers are among the key goals of my ministry.”
