Significant employment opportunities are expected to be generated when a modern Hotel Resort and Spa currently being constructed in the town of Portsmouth is complete.
That assurance has come from by Prime Minister and minister for Finance Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit.
The Prime Minister told a recent activity in at the Dublanc/Bioche pre-school that a minimum of one hundred jobs will be created.
“At this hotel in Portsmouth we are looking at a minimum of one hundred jobs available at that establishment,” Prime Minister Skerrit said.
The Prime Minister indicated that the Government of Dominica will provide a special training programme for prospective employees at the Hotel.
“The Government of Dominica will embark on a training exercise which will prepare trainees for taking up employment at the Hotel” the Prime Minister said.
“During the training, we will also provide a stipend to all the trainees so that they can defray the cost of transportation and snacks, “he said.
Work on the fifty-eight room hotel which began in September 2011 is expected to be complete in the next few months.
The Cabrits Hotel and Spa is being built on a 4 ½ acre site located between the Purple Turtle Beach and the Cabrits National Park.
The hotel is being fully funded by the Government of Morocco as a gift to the Government of Dominica.
The Government of Dominica is in current negotiation with a foreign company to manage the hotel.
