Dominica’s House of Parliament on Thursday received a gift of office equipment and furniture from the standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of the Peoples Republic of China.
The items which were presented to Speaker of the House of Assembly, Hon. Alix Boyd-Knight were promised by Chen Changzhi, Vice President of the Standing Committee during a visit to Dominica last July.
The items included thirty desktop computers, six laptop computers, six laser printers, thirty computer desks and thirty office chairs.
Making the presentation to the Speaker, was Chinese Ambassador to Dominica, His.Excellency Wang Zonglai. He said the presentation is testimony to the continued relations between China and Dominica and is hoping that it will strengthen communication links between the both countries.
Minister for Information, Telecommunications and Constituency Empowerment and Parliamentary Representative for the Roseau South constituency, Hon. Ambrose George who represented the Government during the handing over ceremony described the gift as valuable.
“I believe that the equipment will serve us very well in the Parliament. As parliamentarians we have to keep up with the technology and having been granted these pieces of equipment, [we will certainly be assisted in carrying out our work],"noted Hon. George.
The speaker of the House of Assembly gave the assurance that the gift items will be used wisely.
”I can tell you that I am thrilled that we have now in our possession all these items. We know that we need them and obviously they will be put to full and good use,” she said.
A symbolic presentation of a laptop computer was made to Speaker of the House, Alix Boyd-Knight during the official visit of Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of China’s National People’s Congress to Dominica last July.
