Dominica’s aggressive foreign policy is yielding positive results. That point has been emphasized by Prime Minister Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit, who has identified the election of Dr. Carissa Etienne as Director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) as a concrete example of the dynamic foreign policy being employed by his administration.
The Prime Minister in addressing a group of visiting nationals on Wednesday expounded on the subject matter.
“You will be surprised the type of countries which came forward very early on notwithstanding the relationships they may have had with Ecuador and Costa Rica. These countries have said that because of the exceptional relationship that we have had with Dominica we shall support your candidate. And countries did not only say they would support Dominica’s candidate, they made available financial resources for the campaign and that is as a result of the very ambitious, progressive and aggressive foreign policy that this Government has embarked upon over the last thirteen years.” explained PM Skerrit.
The Prime Minister emphasized that Dominica’s foreign policy is based on sincerity and openness and will continue to be the driving force of the country’s national policy.
“Our foreign policy is based on sincerity and openness. We don’t want to be playing games with nations. If a country comes to us and say they would like us to support them on a particular matter if we know we cannot support them we will tell them that we cannot support them.”
The Prime Minister says Dominica will continue its firm stance on its foreign policy as decisions are being taken in the best interest of the country.
