The beach in Layou is receiving a face lift.
The Hon Parliamentary Representative for Layou, Kelver Darroux is working with the Layou Improvement Committee to upgrade the beach in phases.
The first phase of the major improvement, is an entertainment stage.
“This stage is costing the Government of Dominica an amount of $32,000,” Hon Darroux informed. The MP anticipates that the new development will contribute to the tourism and cultural aspect of the community.
This permanent stage will also serve the community well during the Titiwi Festival. There are also plans by the committee to rent out the stage to other organisations wishing to hold activities on the Layou beach.
“Another component of the project which will shortly be undertaken is the construction of a washroom facility,” he informed. A third phase includes the construction of vending huts.
Chairman of the Layou improvement committee, Lazare Charles says the community is happy for this stage and the other aspects of the project to bring development to Layou.
He says this permanent stage will certainly reduce the cost of hosting the Titiwi Festival and will enhance the community’s tourism product and other events in Layou.
