One of the major hotel developments signed in September 2016, Silver Beach Resort and Spa, promises to contribute to the economy and prestige of Dominica.
Construction of Silver Beach Resort and Spa at Picard Portsmouth, under the brand Marriott will begin early in 2017.
At the announcement ceremony, Hon Minister for Tourism, Senator Robert Tonge, developers Senior Counsel Alick Lawrence and Dr. Michael Lawrence and representatives of Marriott international all discussed how they believe this brand will significantly enhance the image of the island.
Hon. Senator Robert Tonge, in his address, spoke of Government’s efforts to ensure the success of the tourism industry to include the hotel industry.
“Government has also increased its marketing budget, investing more heavily in the systematic promotion of Dominica to travel agents, tour operators and potential investors. All of these initiatives mentioned have been made possible through the proceeds of the Citizenship by Investment Programme, a programme with a solid reputation,” he said.
Director of Trust Hospitality, the hotel operator of Silver Beach Resort and Spa, Michael Register, expressed how proud the company was to be part of what is going to be a new Marriott autograph.
He says Dominica is set apart from rest of the Caribbean and this uniqueness will greatly contribute to the hotel brand.
“As the operator, one of our responsibilities along with Marriott is to put what they call ‘heads in beds’ and I feel very, very comfortable when I know that there is one hundred million loyalty members out there that would love to spend a vacation in Dominica. Having the brand Marriott is a big, big plus and it gives prestige to the project; it gives prestige to the island,” he said.
Director of Silver Beach development, Dr. Micheal Lawrence, stated that the core objectives of this development are to provide jobs for the people of Dominica and to assist in improving the economy.
He reiterated that this project will create hundreds of jobs for Dominicans during and post construction.
“Entrepreneurs and vendors will have the great opportunity to establish partnership with the management of Silver Beach to provide goods and services to the hotel. More importantly, Silver Beach will provide for the training of Dominicans locally, regionally and internationally to provide the skills required for employment in the hospitality industry,” he noted.
He also pledged to establish relationship with farmers to get sale for their produce and engage in various social projects in the community.
