Saturday December 17 marked the 186th anniversary of the death of Simon Bolivar.
Bolivar was a Venezuelan military and political leader who played a key role in Hispanic America’s successful struggle for independence from the Spanish empire and is today considered one of the most influential politicians in the history of the Americas.
To mark this year’s anniversary, a ceremony was held at the Simon Bolivar square in Goodwill which was attended by government officials as well as members of the diplomatic corps.
Wreaths were laid at the feet of the Simon Bolivar bust and a cake designed with the flag of Venezuela was also cut at the ceremony.
