From September 12th-15th, 2012, the Dominica Youth Business Trust attended the fifth Annual Caribbean Youth Entrepreneurship Conference. The conference was hosted by the Youth Business Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (YBSVG) and brought together the Caribbean Group of Youth Business Trusts. The theme was ‘The catalyst for a Sustainable Caribbean Economic take-off’ and the conference focused on the principals of Equity, Justice and Independence.
Entrepreneurs and representatives from the Youth Business Trusts throughout the Caribbean gathered to discuss issues such as business opportunities for young entrepreneurs, the current economic situation and how to create and maintain a sustainable economy. Two young Dominican entrepreneurs, Alfred Darroux and Kathlene Henry, who are supported by the DYBT, participated in the 2-day conference and the Entrepreneurs’ Exhibition Competition.
Prizes were awarded to the young entrepreneurs. Alfred Darroux, proprietor of Islanders Art Workshop from Good Hope won the award for ‘Best Quality’ for his beautiful, wooden Islanders Craft products, which he sells in Roseau and through his personal Facebook page.
Both entrepreneurs displayed their businesses at an exhibition. Kathlene Henry, masseuse and owner of Tranquil Haven in Massacre gave hand massages and mini-manicures to the visitors.
DYBT Coordinator, Mr. John Roach, was also presented with an award from the Caribbean Group of Youth Business Trusts for his leadership, dedication and commitment to youth entrepreneurship.
