A team of medical practitioners are helping to improve the health of the residents of Grand Fond, along with PDV Caribe Dominica Ltd.
PDV Caribe Dominica Ltd. Collaborated with Cuban medical practitioners to bring healthcare services to the residents over the weekend.
The first of four health visits is part of activities for celebrations of the 10th anniversary of the signing of the Petro Caribe agreement.
According to PDV Caribe Dominica Ltd representative, Samantha Charles, “We have surgeons, general practitioners, a gastroenterologist, pediatricians…”
She also listed Cuba’s Ambassador to Dominica, H.E Juan Carlos Frometa de la Rosa doctors of Optipharm as part of the team.
The Hon. Parliamentary Representative for the Grand Fond Constituency, Ivor Stephenson welcomed the kind gesture which includes free eye exams.
“This collaboration is very welcome for the people of Grand Fond. Persons have turned out in very large numbers and we can see that the people of Grand Fond are very appreciative of the services,” he said to GIS News.”
He says he looks forward to the continued partnership with the two countries to bring these healthcare services to other parts of the island. He extended thanks on behalf of his constituents to the embassies of Cuba and Venezuela.
So far activities have included visits by preschools, primary schools, as well as trips with Dominica State College students to various projects funded by Petro Caribe.
In 2005, the world witnessed the birth of Petro Caribe as an energy cooperation agreement signed by 14 countries including Dominica.
To-date, 18 countries are part of the initiative.
