Staff and residents of the Northern District Home for the Aged has benefited from the charity of the Public Outreach Committee.
The Public Outreach Committee, operating under the Establishment, Training and Personnel Department of Government Headquarters, on Friday donated a washing machine and built an outside sink for the Northern District Home for the Aged as part of giving back to the community.
The contribution was planned by the committee among other activities leading up to Public Service Day in December this year.
Malcolm St. Rose who is a member of the Public Outreach Committee made the official presentation.
He said, “[This] is an opportunity for us as public officers to give. The Bible says, ‘To whom much is given, much is required’ and ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ Therefore, public officers throughout the island came together and made cash donations to make this presentation possible for the residents of the Northern District Home for the Aged. On behalf of the Public Outreach Committee and public officers by extension, we present this washing machine to the establishment and we trust that it will be appreciated. We also pray for durability that it would serve them well for a long time.”
Chairperson for the board of directors of the Northern District Home for the Aged, Augustus St. Jean received what he called a timely gift, with many thanks.
“On behalf of the Northern District Home for the Aged board of directors, residents and staff, I want to thank the Public Service for their kind donation and gesture of love,” he said.
Immediately following that action, the members of the Public Outreach Committee with shovels and pickaxes in hand commenced work on the outside sink.
The donation was funded by contributions from public servants.
The theme for the observance of Public Service Day 2012 is “Our Public Service: Transforming, Modernising, Positively Changing.”
